A grey winter’s day walk by Central Park Reservoir turned into one of my most calming painting sessions. I loved capturing the soft reflections and that quiet NYC stillness. I gifted this piece, titled “OM,” to my boss for her birthday in 2016 a reminder of the peace I felt before, during, and after painting it.

Greenport, NY — February 2016

Two paintings from that time, made when Saatchi, Coco and I stayed with Lucy.

I was painting from photos then — letting gesture and color lead the way.
Acrylics, abstraction, and memory intertwined.

I wanted to catch the light, the air, the feeling of that day.
All the power that ever was is here and now.

I left the first one with Lucy as a personal thank you for letting us stay with her and paint on the premises.
The other still lives with me in my studio in New York City.

It’s lovely to look back and see how it all began.

La Tapisserie, St Léger Magnazeix
The house where my parents lived — and where I’m staying now. I painted it years ago as a gift for them; it still rests where it always has, quietly part of the home.

Named La Tapisserie for my mum’s love of cross stitch. I paint in L’Atelier, the small building on the right, while the Gîte on the left once held my girls and my husband Dalvinder when we came to visit.

The second image is of a house in Montmorillon, near where we’d lunch by the river with my parents when the girls were little — sunlight, water, and memory intertwined.

I painted this French barn in February 2016 in St Léger Magnazeix. I used to pass it often on my bike and was drawn to its quiet simplicity. One of my very first paintings — it still lives with me in my New York loft, a small reminder of the calm and stillness of rural France. 🇫🇷✨
